Affordability Solution
Share the Solar Boom with Rural Americans
The Reason: Rural landowners could significantly lower electricity bills and gain billions in new revenue if a federal law enabled them to sell solar to their neighbors in a two mile radius.
How it Works: A new federal law would enable rural property owners to build, operate and sell electricity in a two-mile radius through their own solar farms of up to 100 acres across islanded microgrids that are independent of the utility-controlled, overburdened transmission grids.
A single 30-acre solar farm would be 100% financeable and yield hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual profits. It’s revenues would come from the sale of electricity “over the fence” to neighbors on a redundant distribution grid. Most neighboring properties would pay 20% less per kilowatt hour than they do now. This solution would also provide energy resilience from blackouts of the transmission grid caused by storms, fires or cyberwarfare, and bring rural communities low cost EV charging to electrify vehicles & tools.
This is a free market solution that would cost the government nothing, and bring billions of dollars of new revenue to cash-strapped rural communities, instead of restricting the benefit of solar power to massive utility corporations. More about ths solution here.
