Boost Federal Minimum Wage to $12 so America’s poorest workers can afford food.

The Reason: The cost of food has increased by more than 60% during the last 16 years, while the minimum wage has stayed the same.

How it Works: In this time of skyrocketing food inflation, the federal minimum wage remains the same $7.25 an hour that it was when it was last increased in 2009.

During that time, food inflation has increased by more than 60%. To keep pace with inflation, and allow America’s lowest paid workers to afford food, the minimum wage would be increased to $12 an hour for next year.

The 2027 Congress can increase the federal minimum wage through a majority vote on a bill to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
