During the past 15 years, InformYourVote.com’s founder and non-profit funder Jonathan Greenberg has deployed five iterations of a neutral, non-partisan candidates video debate platform to help build a stronger democracy. Greenberg is a nationally renowned financial journalist and a Web 1.0 digital media pioneer whose Internet company, Gist.com, was one of only 14 companies to win the first annual Webby Award, in 1997.

The platform development began in October 6, 2011, with the five person Democratic Party primary for an open seat in the 2nd congressional district in California, a contest which included the current incumbent, Jared Huffman. 

In subsequent years, the candidates video debate platform was used for a city council and county supervisor race.  During the 2020 congressional primaries, the platform was improved and expanded to deploy two dozen congressional debates nationwide, working with local partners including the Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk-Young debates, and Indiana Town Halls.

For the hotly contested June 2021 ranked choice New York City mayoral primary election, InformYourVote implemented an innovative marketing strategy that attracted the largest viewing audience of any online voter resource. In a race won by less than 1% of the 900,000 votes cast, more than 150,000 New Yorkers viewed 320,000 short candidate videos on InformYourVote.org’s YouTube page.

Using lessons learned from past applications, the InformYourVote.com will provide uniquely accessible video debates in the 28 closest House and Senate races for the 2026 midterm elections.
